Fuckin' PEACH!
Soooo, Travis last night.

Oh man, where do I start.

Getting There

...was a BITCH. It started raining the minute mum dropped us off by the bus. Sigh. Stupid Travis. Anyway, [info]tonyboney and I met up with my other friend and we trudged down to Kool Haus. Now, we all assumed that it'd be maybe 1/2, 3/4 full? Uhm NO. Apparently Toronto has fucking MISSED Travis, because it was PACKED.

The sun was out downtown by the time we got there...

...but it got overcast as concert time drew closer. Geeeeze. Anyways...

The Audience

... were the best people EVER. They were all major fans (we're talking I-have-the-DVDs-fans here) and they were SO NICE. The Travis!concert!veterans showed us the ropes kid, showed us theeeee ropes, and even let us edge in front of them. They told us what to expect and how great it'd be, and we whiled the time away by singing and dancing. FUN. (No, seriously.)

During the actual gig, the crowd sang along with every. Single. Song. From "Battleships" to "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" they knew every word. Fran said he was impressed. XD

They sang, they danced, they screamed, they ROCKED. Thanks to an enthusiastic crowd, this was the greatest gig ever.

Opening Act

John Paul White. He was actually really good, and he's got the cutest guitarist accent EVER. From Aluhbamaaah.

Oh, and the guitarist is hot. And named Whitney. Tee hee.

Don't Call Me Whitney, Bobby. Hello? Anyone get that little Islands joke? *sighs*

Jack Sparrow John Paul White

Uhhh, both of them.

TRAVIS

... rocked the house (which admittedly rocked them right back. GO TORONTO!!). We were standing in front of Dougie. The tales of the hips? UNDERSTATED, okay? There was many a O_o, shriek, swoon (real ones on my part), and just exasperated sighs because he's such a FLIRT. Always posing all sexily with his bass as soon as someone raises a camera. Tsk. Heeeeee. Haha, Carly and Niala and I were having such a blast dancing madly and shrieking "DOUGAAAAAY!" when we could. He loved it when the audience screamed his n-- called out to him. O_O Would either smile, wave, or hump his bass harder. Lucky bass.

Oh, and every time he'd look directly at me, I'd be looking elsewhere, because God hates me. At one point Carly had to jab me in the back to get my attention; while I flailed about, trying to understand what she was trying to get across, apparently Dougie and she were having a wee laugh because he knew she was trying to get me to look at him because he had been looking at me *GASPS FOR AIR* and apparently this happened like THREE TIMES or more because GOD HATES ME did I mention that *GASP THUD*

*is dragged away by English profs and beaten for run-on sentence from hell*

So most of my pictures are of Dougie, because he's Dougie he was the one closest to us. *shrug*

Fran was brilliant and flaily; chatted with the audience a bunch, which was BRILLIANT, and... well, damn, we all know he's fantastic, what is there to say?

Neil smiled a lot, even when Fran leapt on his drumkit to flail about a bit more. What? He ... drums. He drums brilliantly, but he doesn't really talk, sooo...

Poor Klaus. As some of you might have heard, Fran has taken to instructing audiences to point at Klaus and chant "KLAUS! KLAUS! KLAUS!" (ad infinitum) at him during his piano solo in "Good Feeling." And then he poked fun at him, made him speak Swedish for us, and sang "I've got a Klaus feeling" at the end. Thumbs up.

Andy was too damn far for me to see much of what he was doing, but he was fucking fantastic. Leapt into the crowd for his wank solo in "All I Wanna Do Is Rock," leapt about for "Turn," etc etc. Oh, and he wiggled his eyebrows at our section. *shrill giggle* And winked. Shy, my ARSE.

"Flowers in the Window" was ... well, wow. The rest of the band sings with Fran (he's the only one with an instrument for this song). At one point, Fran took his hands off the guitar and Dougie and Andy reached around him... Dougie used one hand to strum the rhythm, and Andy formed the chords.

And Fran? Uhhh... how to explain; he was pretty much seductively caressing their faces and cracking up. All of them were. WE, however, were like *GAPE*

Wow.

"Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" had every single jaded Torontonian singing and pogo-ing along. Greatest moment ever. Fran didn't even need to sing the last verse; the band just turned their mics towards us. (And apparently they were taking a time lapse video of us; it'll be on MySpace soon. *EXCITED*)

PICTURES!

DOUGIE!

Dougie(tm): Sexy Even With Red-Eye.

Franny.

The band (sans Andy, who was off somewhere to the right flailing about).

Dougie. His hips don't lie? Sorry.

Andy! Only picture I managed to get of him because I'm hella short.

Dougie.

Fran.

"Are those guys tellin' you not to film us? *gestures to security guards* You know what? Film us if you want to... it's our fault for not puttin' out a DVD in so long."
All: WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!

*THUD*

Fran, playing '20.'

After
Niala had to leave before they came outside. T____T

WHITNEY (the guy who played with John Paul White)

We randomly saw him at the merch table and asked for pictures; he joked about charging us for it. Hahaha.

I'd put Niala's picture with him here, but you don't know her. So no.

JOHN PAUL WHITE
We saw him outside taking pictures with some other folk, so we decided to ask for some as well. He's very nice! Had on a Ziggy Marley shirt, so I mentioned that I was Jamaican and we chatted for a wee bit.

NEIL

Jo - I asked for a hug (one of the only two people) and got a great one! (Poss. a kiss on the cheek; my mind's a BLANK.) And then he signed my hoodie, posed for a picture ... which got fucked up, cursed my camera ("In the old days, film cameras wairked be'er than this digital shite..." [me: I can't afford film, mister!]), posed for another one. WARM FUZZIES. Goooosh, his voice is so deep. And that accent. Phooar.

The fucked up one! Ha.

Hooray. *SNUGGLE*

Carly - GODDAMN IT MAN. She's prolly gonna bitch about it in her journal, but I felt like I had to yell at her to get her to approach Neil. So I did. Yelled, shoved, all that good stuff. But you know what? It succeeded. She got a hug-kiss, a siggy, and a picture (which she'll be uploading soon; it's not on my camera.)

Cue a loooooong wait... (I actually considered just going home) and then the other three sort of came out at the same time and were mobbed. The more polite folk (Carly, myself, and a handful of others) hung back, not wanting to overwhelm them.

I very nearly ran away when Dougie came over, though. Tsk. Guh. Ch.

Aaaaanyways... heh.

Dougie

I'm pretty sure he recognised us from the crowd (let's be honest, I'm hard to miss at rock concerts), because he looked right at us and smiled. "By the way, NICE shirts, ladies."

Ohhh, yeah. We made shirts for the gig; Carly's said "HOW TERRIBLY ROCK & ROLL" and mine said "ALL I WANNA DO IS ROCK." *thumbs up*

Jo - I randomly decided to give him my Ziggy Stardust pin because I thought he'd appreciate it. Talk about appreciation; he freaked RIGHT out and pinned it on right there. I've never seen a guy go fangirly so fast in my life and it was BRILLIANT. As I always am when I'm terrified, I was jokingly snarky and told him that I thought I deserved a hug, a siggy, and a picture. He agreed rather enthusiastically.

The Hug(tm) was more of a glomp. A very long glomp. I was being crushed, but WHO KEHHS CARES? It's DOUGIE. It was BRILLIANT. omg i felt his boy-bits omg omg omg omg

Cue more gushing about the pin ("This is a fuckin' PEACH" / "This has made my entire night"), nearly strangling me while he signed my hoodie ("Am I stranglin' you?" Me: "I don't mind; not a bad way to go."), and crushed me in another entwining hug for a rather lovely picture. ^_^

If you look closely, you can see MY Bowie pin on HIS jacket. I miss my pin.

Carly - Her own words here - "Hugged me violently, signed my bag, picture." O_O

Andy

Carly - Again, I had to all but scream at her to get her to move. I SWEAR... anyway. Fran was kind of drifting off to one side (towards the bus), so I was in a bit of a hurry! Anyways, I went up to Andy and said "Lemme just say it FOR her; she's a really big fan. You're like her... rock god."
Him: :D Thank you very much!

(She's dictating it to me now.)

He had his bag... it looked like he was in a hurry, so I just went up to him and asked for a hug. And then I sort of started to turn away, but then he asked if I wanted a picture... we posed, and the camera fucked up... so I got to hug him an extra minute while the girl tried the camera. I asked him to sign my bag; he took such a long time being all proper and stuff. (His IS the best-looking autograph...) These two other girls came up and asked me to take a picture of them with him... he borrowed my pen again. HEEEE.

I said "Thank you" quite violent-- I mean enthusiastically, and he beamed again.

(End dictation!)

Just before I walked away, Carly called attention to our awesomeness shirts, and Andy mentioned that he had one similar to Carly's (and that he still has it).
Me: *grin* Because CARLY sure didn't know that. *giggles and runs off*

Oh... what else, what else... I pointed at my shirt (AIWDIR, remember) and thanked him for playing it.

Jo - Got a fantastic hug (and a cheek-bump-type-kiss!), picture, siggy. And he actually asked for my name. THUMBS UP! I thanked him for coming to Toronto in mid-hug, and he thanked us for coming out!

...I shan't write more, as it's Carly's time to shine. XD

I think I completely tore up my throat when I screamed "AN-DAAAAAAY!" in the gig. Owwww.

Fran

Jo - I'm getting WELL tired, so I'll do this quickly. Fran came out (we were almost the only people left) and kinda looked questioningly at me like... you want a picture or...? I just stared dumbly back for a bit.
Fran: Hulloooo. :)
Me: Hi.
Carly: Hiiii...
All: *stare at each other*
Fran: *raises eyebrows*
Me: UHM, right! I know you guys must be in a hurry --
Fran: *scoff* Nahhh, it's no problem...
Me: --but can... I have a hug please?
Fran: Of course! *BEARHUG*
Me: Heeee... *cough* Can you maybe sign my hoodie, please?
Fran: Sure... :)
Me: *frown* I can't think of anything even vaguely interesting to say right now, I'm sorry. =(
Fran: XD That's all right! *to Carly* Could you do me a favour?
Carly: *BEAM* Sure!
Fran: Could you hold this...? *hands part of my hoodie... hood*
Me: Uhm, can I have a picture too?
Fran: Sure! *POSE*

That man is disturbingly adorable. GOD.

Me: I heard you talking to someone earlier about a Canadian tour...?
Fran: Yeah, we were thinkin' to do a proper Canadian tour.
Me: *clasps hands and looks pathetic* PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do.
Carly: Why didn't you come to North Carolina...?
Fran: We've been there loads of times! 4 or 5!
(somewhere during all this is Carly's autograph and picture)
Me: You've GOT to come back again, please.
Fran: I'll have to talk to my manager...
Me: Bah, I'm sure you've got loads of sway!

And then we left. On the way to a taxi, Carly yelled "BYE!" at Fran and he waved at us. I waved back.

The end.

... for all that, I can't even remember the setlist. I just know they started with 'Selfish Jean' and ended with 'Why Does It Always Rain On Me?' with loads of arm-flailingly good... goodness... in-between.

--J.

OH, and I forgot another bit of the Toronto gig! I wasn't really listening, as I was quelling my urge to run away from Dougie in terror, but...

Fan: I saw [something something] in Glasgow...
Dougie: Ahhh, must have been in pieces... *pause* the fuck out.
All: *GROAN*
Me: That was horrible. XD

FUCKING HELL.

Okay...you guys? FREAKIN' LUCKY. I don't know where to start! lol
The gig sounds amazing as does the crowd, wow! And that is such an important part of what makes a good concert.

(we're talking I-have-the-DVDs-fans here)
I LOVE that kind, hehe! Very hard to find over here. And having a gig packed with them must have been pretty good.

DOUGIE FANCIES JO
Sry, I'm eleven years-old. But he does.

All the pics are soo great & you look really gorgeous! *nods* And the boys do too and just...jkfhwejkrerh. Teh sweetness.
LOL @ the Ziggy Stardust pin! Very cool, I have to say.
I like that chest-shot of Neil, btw. Hahah. And "Nice shirts, ladies" ?? *SWOONS*
"Disturbingly adorable" is a very good way to describe Franny, I'm gonna steal that. :p

Proper fans deserve to have this happen to them. I'm truly happy for you, girls. :)
wha' a wankah.: travis in the graviss[info]electricwine on July 22nd, 2007 12:20 am (UTC)
Yeah!! Some guy yelled "FRAN, YOU ROCK!" and Fran said "Thanks... YOU rock." And then he explained that gigs were 50/50, yeah? We were a great crowd, so that made them play better, which made US happier, which made THEM better, which made US happie-- okay, etc etc.

I don't know ANY I-have-the-DVD-fans here! So I was utterly THRILLED to be in a massive crowd of them. I wish I'd thought to exchange LJs or Facebooks with some of 'em. Sigh.

STOP THAT OMG
>.< I hate him for being so utterly perfect, especially in PERSON. I sigh wistfully every time I see a picture now. God knows what'll happen when I next watch the DVDs. I wish.

>=( I do NOT look gorgeous! The boys outshine me effortlessly ;)
Haha, I sort of miss my pin, but JESUS was the facial expression (XD) fucking worth it. Heeee.
HAhahaha... everyone says that the chest shot of Neil and the Dougie picture look couple-y. *SNORT*
He is disturbingly adorable. I seriously went mind-blank when he finally came 'round (regretting that SO MUCH now), and I managed to talk to DOUGIE. And Dougie's... DOUGIE. Y'know?

*HUG* Eeee. Only problem now is that I miss them so much I could weep...

BUT THEN I LOVE YOU FOR MAKING ME LAUGH SO HARD, I BROKE A HIP.
All right, not really, but still.

And I'm SOOOO jealous!!! No one EVER comes to freaking Virginia. NO ONE. Well, Muse is, but I can't go. :/
Bastards!!
I love how Dougie was truly eye-shagging you.
Ohhh yes, you know he was.
Or..at least, you and I want to believe he was. *shrugs*

>.> He was. Although I missed it a bunch of times DAMN it. *THUD.*

...oh, and that bitch Carly adds "And I got it instead... *smarmy laugh*"

GOD I hate her.

Gosh, that girl Carly? You KNOW HER? Sheesh, what a...

Haha. :P
I love you guys like mad.

YES I WAS GYRATING MADLY.
I felt like a squirrel on cocaine.
...not that I know what that feels like...

But 'm glad you got the Travis!ness working for ya.
I would've been shaking my head at Fran.
It's hard to look at him the same way now.

Are you ready for my 1 million comments?

I totally thought that guy Whitney was hot too! When we saw him, he had this low cut t-shirt on and it showed off his chest hair. *drops dead*

I had a great crowd at my show too, no one was getting drunk off their ass, they were singing along. Fran loved that everyone knew the words to songs off the new cd. He was like "The cd has only just come out! I can't believe you know the words already!"

Dougie looked right at me once, several years ago...at a show in New Orleans, and I swear, part of me died. I love that man.
wha' a wankah.[info]electricwine on August 1st, 2007 01:50 pm (UTC)
Oh, I so am. GIVE TO ZIM! Are you ready for my 1, 000, 001 replies? ;)

Oh, man, everyone's fallen for Whitney hahaha. He's a DARLING and just. So. Cute.

O_o Ooh-er, I forgot how much drunk people can ruin a concert... case in point, Tapes 'n Tapes. GodDAMN, that is possibly the worst gig I've ever been to.

Oh, tsk, Fran. And here I was thinking the Toronto audience was especially good!! But it looks like North America in general has been obsessively listening to TBWNN. An indication of how Travis-deprived we've been, I reckon although I've only been a fan for a little over a year, haha!

Damn flirt. Does he know how many heart-broken girls and confused boys he's left behind? Now I'll never find love, because if the bloke isn't Scottish as good as Dougie...

Dougie, Dougie, you've ruined my life! T___T [/melodrama]

Fantastic review and photos!!! I especially had to giggle about the one with John Paul White's guitar player.
John Paul White. He was actually really good, and he's got the cutest guitarist/accent EVER.

My friend and I were totally crushing on him. We were standing in their "hang out" spot so we kept comment to him. I am glad we weren't the only ones who thought he was hot :)

Well, thanks again for sharing. I didn't have a camera, paraphernalia or anything for the Minneapolis concert. Next time I will be more prepared. (It was my first Travis concert and I got the ticket 30 minutes before door opening.)
wha' a wankah.: Dougie - wot?[info]electricwine on August 1st, 2007 01:55 pm (UTC)
Oh, dooon't, you'll make me 'ead swell. Hahaha, it's true though! It didn't help that my friends and I were right in front of Whitney, so it was easier to gawp at him than to crane our necks to get a gander of Mr. White...!

Ooooh, wot'd you say to him? Hee hee.

No problem! I'm sorry you couldn't have a camera with you, but at least you had a fantastic time! And how on earth did you get tickets at the last minute?! I found out when the tickets went on sale for the Toronto gig and had a massive hissy fit until I bought mine 2 days later, hahaha!

Cheers to our first Travis concerts! *clinks champagne glasses beer bottles*

Ooooh, wot'd you say to him? Hee hee.
Before Travis started we were talking about other great bands that played at First Avenue and Prince (since he’s a local.) Once Travis started he was busy texting on his phone. He did ask me how to spell Minneapolis and I was laughing too hard to answer. What a hottie!

And how on earth did you get tickets at the last minute?!
My friend works in the office at First Avenue and called me last minute to join her since she didn’t want to stand by herself. I didn’t even know they were going to be in town. You can believe that now I will be lurking around waiting until their next show near Minneapolis. Now that I know there is such a strong fan-base around here I hope to meet up with cool new Travis-friends.

That was absolutely hilarious. I was where you were a couple of months earlier during their Amsterdam gig. And indeed: Dougie is SUCH a tease. Also, that guy has the prettiest smile in the whole wide world. Fact!

Hope you enjoyed Harry Potter as well :)

Amsterdam! Ohhh, how I want to go. Le sigh.

;) I'm glad you got a kick out of it, haha... it was a really fab night, although by the time we finally left the venue, the trains had stopped running and we had to call my mum in a bit of a panic. Trapped downtown at 2 in the morning? Ohhh crap.

Mutter, Dougie. Stop flirting with us, it's breaking our wee hearts! *pause* Okay, don't stop flirting with us. But still.

And oh, does he ever. Though I must admit that a be-dimpled smile from one Francis Healy is enough to make me squeal in a most annoyingly girly way.

I diiiid! Have you read the book and seen the movie...?

oh my gosh...these pictures ARE FANTASTIC. you're so lucky you got to meet them. i'm kicking myself for not staying after!! grrrrrrr... i love that they sang '20'!! and your video is amazingly good. my videos are very muffled and the most you hear is screaming and singing from the peoples around me!

Haha, I must admit that although '20' isn't one of my FAVOURITES, it is about my age, sooo... hee hee.

;) I've perfected how to get a relatively steady video at a concert -- use my boobs to balance my elbows! Ooh-er, that sounded painful. Hahahaha

By the way, is your name LotR-related? Because if so, I doth thinketh you shall be friended. Because eeee.

I will remember that next time. It'll be easy to balance my elbows. LOL!!!

Yes it is!! You're so good. I thinketh friending sounds fantastic! (I loves your Dougie icon. Heee!)

Auuugh, a LotR/HP/Travis fan! We would get along FAMOUSLY. Come to the Toronto gig next time they come back to North America! It'll be FUN. Especially if they play Kool Haus again, which I hope to God they do.

Hahahaha, it is! I used to hold my arms up, but that KILLED and made everything shaky... the boob way of things does involve some awkward back-arching, but it produces a better video!

Awww, my friend and I talk about you guys a lot! How nice you were -- and how much FUN! We really appreciate you making our first Travis concert such a blast. <3!

and if you're ever in Michigan for a show let me know, i tend to go to all sorts of gigs when i get the time off. i'm a bit of a show veteran but then again i'm an old fogey (gah 33) so i suppose of course i've been to a zillion shows...

Eddie is a great lad! We have hung out with him several times after shows. He's the best! :D

of course you may add me!!

AB's new album is good, too...check it out! :)

I saw them in Detroit (well, Pontiac, but who's keeping track?) and yes, it was very very much like you described, minus getting pictures because I had no idea you could do that in the venue they were at. Boo. Ah well. I also couldn't stick around late because I had to teach in the morning and some of my students were there too--lol. One of them recognized me, heh, but hey that's fine, at least I know they have good taste in music.

After seeing Fran's t-shirt we went to Meijer's on the way home and bought Jaffa Cakes. *dies in the Jaffa cake goodness*

O__o oh, MAN! Is it one of the places where they say no pictures? Because Fran told us to film them even if the security guards said not to. *thumbs up*

Soooo you're the coolest teacher ever, I reckon. I would have LOVED to see one of my professors there! Blimey. What d'you teach?

Oh, man, the shirt. We went to the washroom and took no longer than 10 minutes (line-up and all)... and when we got to the merch table, everything was all but GONE! We just barely managed to get the last last LAST shirts (the ones on display), augh. And they didn't have the "AAAAAAAAH Selfish Jean" one I so wanted. *sulk*

Are Jaffa cakes really that good? I must give them a go... hmmm.

I declare this like the bestest Travis post EVAR...and what are you talking about, your Fran experience didn't go well?! It did too! See, I felt like I was cool with everyone, but me and Dougie just didn't gel or something...I dunno...maybe he can sense I used to be a massive Dougie fan and then went to the darksi- erm, I mean the Andyside ;oD

I WANT one of those How Terribly Rock And Roll shirts! I've been scouring looking for something and when I couldn't, I started designing on zazzle...but it's not what I want by any means...:o/

You're All I Wanna Do Is Rock shirt is AWESOME! ZOMG, I lubs it!

You know, my friend Robyn (who went to see Travis in Minneapolis with me) and I were talking about going to Toronto...if they come there again next time, perhaps we'll have to make a little trip into the Canadian wilderness ;oD

I WIN! *dons crown of cardboard and looks smug* *pause* Oh, I just feel silly. *puts on crown of tinfoil* NOW I'M STYLIN'.

D: I don't feel like it did! I just went DURRR I DUNNO WUT 2 SAI first thing. GodDAMN!

Hahaha, I was telling my Andy fangirl of a friend (you might've friended her) that I myself can see myself becoming an Andy fangirl. Because EVERYONE loves Dougie -- how can you not? -- but Andy... he's wow. And so tiny. I dunno why, but just eeee. As it is, he's my no. 2 fangirly person in Travis. XD

Ooooh-er, if you lived here I'd TOTES make one for you! Heck, if we become friends I will make one for you. I love making shirts! It's just a blank shirt and iron-on letters, but still! Fun.

XD Oh man, I was well worried that they'd not play AIWDIR and then I'd have to just stand there, pointing at my shirt and wibbling. And then they'd feel badly.

OH GOSH PLEASE DO! Now that I've been there, the idea of going with a whole bunch of Travis-y friends is head-explodingly awesome. Toronto! Toronto! CAHM AWN!

Tinfoil headgear is so much more stylish...especially if you put some big ole tinfoil stars on there for decoration...maybe spraypaint them gold or something so there's some sort of contrast...

I think they can be very engaging if you have something to talk to them about, but it can be a little awkward just walking up and them not knowing anything about you or anything...so sometimes you just have to pluck up the courage and just ask whatever's on your mind...but then again, you had your Dougie moment, so that should more than make up for your less-than-stimulating Fran experience. And there is always next time!

Do you have a picture of your friend's shirt? You could even cut off her head or blur it out if she didn't want me to see it lol

AIWDIR is sooo Andy's moment, though! They just HAVE to play it!

We're thinking of turning into our own mini Travis tour...it'll be outrageous!
